MIA STRONG

Our sweet Mia was born with a rare congenital heart defect called tricuspid atresia, meaning the right side of her heart did not develop the way it should. Since the day she entered this world, she has already faced more than most people will in a lifetime.

Over the years, Mia has undergone multiple procedures and surgeries, including stents and a Glenn procedure. The Glenn procedure was one of the major steps in helping her heart work more efficiently. During that surgery, doctors rerouted blood flow from the upper part of her body directly to her lungs so her heart would not have to work as hard to pump blood. This helped improve her oxygen levels and reduced some of the stress on her heart, but it was never the final step in her journey.

Originally, doctors expected Mia to have her next major surgery — the Fontan procedure — around 4 years old. Unfortunately, due to concerns with her growth and how hard her heart is currently working, she now needs this surgery much sooner than we expected.

The Fontan procedure is another major open-heart surgery that will reroute the remaining blood flow from the lower half of her body directly to her lungs. This will allow her single functioning heart chamber to focus mainly on pumping oxygen-rich blood throughout her body instead of trying to do both jobs at once. The goal is to help her body get more oxygen, reduce stress on her heart, improve her energy, and give her the best chance at a healthier future.

As parents, there are no words to describe how difficult it is watching your child go through surgery after surgery, knowing how much she has already endured at such a young age. But through every hospital stay, every procedure, every appointment, and every obstacle, Mia continues to smile, fight, and show everyone around her what true strength looks like.

We are asking for prayers, support, and help as we prepare for this next chapter in Mia’s journey. Between medical expenses, travel, recovery, and time away from work, the road ahead will not be easy — but we know we are not alone.
